The signal is not that Pilates disappeared. It is that the category is broadening its definition of what belongs in the same fitness identity.

Why it matters

Boutique fitness used to win by specialization. The current customer increasingly behaves like a portfolio manager, stacking reformer work, running, lifting and recovery across the week. Brands that can keep more of that spend under one roof have a retention advantage, and the shift gives Pilates-led operators permission to compete for strength dollars without abandoning the aesthetic and community that made the category valuable.

Miami already has the audience behavior for this. Pilates, strength, running and recovery regularly overlap at social wellness events, but the studio market still often sells them as separate appointments. The opportunity is in packaging the crossover more intentionally.
